Our Finishes

We have four categories of surface finishes:

high gloss, satin, matte, and super matte.

High gloss finishes are fully oil and water resistant. They have a glass-like sheen that reflects light and feels slick to the touch. Due to their glassy properties, our high gloss finishes cannot be used on the bottoms of our wares where they come in contact with the kiln shelf during firing. This means our high gloss pieces provide a lovely contrast with a matte or super matte finish on their bottoms. These finishes are perfect for everyday use for dining, serving, and decorating!

Satin finishes resist most water and oils. They have a sea-glass-like sheen that reflects some light and feels smooth to the touch. Due to their glassy properties, our satin finishes cannot be used on the bottoms of our wares where they come in contact with the kiln shelf during firing. This means our satin pieces provide a lovely contrast with a matte or super matte finish on their bottoms. These finishes are perfect for everyday use for dining, serving, and decorating!

Matte finishes temporarily absorb some water and oil, but anything absorbed into their surface comes out easily in the dishwasher or air dries quickly. Their textures are similar to smooth pebbles, with the exception of Rojo, and they reflect very little light. These finishes can be used on every inch of our pieces, even where they come in contact with the kiln shelf during firing. This means our matte finishes can offer you solid, complete coverage on any piece or pair nicely with a satin or high gloss surface finish. These finishes are perfect for everyday use for dining, serving, and decorating!

Super matte finishes temporarily absorb some water and may potentially stain with use of oil. Any substances absorbed may come out in the dishwasher, but we cannot guarantee these finishes will not hold stains. Their textures can range from smooth pebbles to hewn stone, and they reflect very little light. These finishes can be used on every inch of our pieces, even where they come in contact with the kiln shelf during firing. This means our matte finishes can offer you solid, complete coverage on any piece or pair nicely with a satin or high gloss surface finish.

BLACK

Black was our very first finish when we began in 2017! We have tweaked it over the years to make it work even better for you and your home. This dramatic finish offers deep contrast with anything you place on it, elevating even the most everyday occasions. It is a matte finish.

BLANC

Blanc is one of our most popular finishes because of its versatility with various color palettes. Blanc has a brushed appearance reminiscent of romantic, old world plaster walls. It is a matte finish.

SAND

Sand is a very popular finish. It is a warm beige claybody embedded with small, dense black speckles that give it visual texture and interest. These speckles come through in any glaze we pair with it to create other finishes. We love how the organic look of this finish brings a down-to-earth feel to any table. Sand is a satin finish.

PEACH

Peach is a light terracotta-colored claybody with dispersed dark brown speckles that give it visual texture without concealing its earthen orange tones.  These speckles come through in any glaze we pair with it to create other finishes. Peach brings a warm glow wherever it goes. It is a super matte finish.

ROJO

Rojo is our most textured finish. It is a deep, earthy red with a dense stony grain throughout. Rojo's texture isn't just beautiful, it's also useful - we love to use it to grind garlic and other aromatics and herbs while cooking. It is a matte finish.

WHITE SAND

White Sand is created using a white glaze all over our Sand finish, which is embedded with small, dense black speckles that give it visual texture and interest. All of these speckles show through the white glaze. White Sand transports us to the beaches along our state's beautiful Gulf Coast, bringing peace, serenity, and texture to any table. It is a matte finish.

COBALT

Cobalt is created using a rich, deep blue surface glaze with our Blanc finish on the edges and bottom of each piece. We love the contrast created by the combination of the two finishes. This finish has a luxurious but laid back feel, reminiscent of the iconic architecture of Mykonos and Santorini, Greece. Cobalt has a brushed appearance and is a satin finish.

CITRON

Citron is created using a bright, vivid chartreuse surface glaze with our Blanc finish on the edges and bottom of each piece. We love the contrast created by the combination of the two finishes. It feels modern and fresh, adding levity to your table and a smile to your face. Citron is a satin finish.

SAGE

Sage is created using a soothing sage surface glaze with our Peach finish on the edge and bottom of each piece. Sage includes the dispersed dark brown speckles from the Peach claybody. We love the contrast created by the combination of the two finishes. It brings an ambiance of peace and reflection to your home. Sage is a matte finish.

HUNTER GREEN

Hunter Green is created using a rich green surface glaze with our Sand finish on the edges and bottom of each piece. It has a slightly orange-peel-like texture and some of the black speckles from the Sand claybody come through the glaze. We love the contrast created by the combination of the two finishes. Hunter Green is simultaneously timeless, vintage, and modern. It's a satin finish.

ROBIN'S EGG

Robin's Egg is created using a light blue surface glaze with our Sand finish, which is embedded with small, dense black speckles that give it visual texture and interest.  All of these speckles show through the white glaze. Robin's Egg pieces look like they just fell straight out of the nest, adding the whimsical elegance of nature to your table. It is a satin finish.

RAINDROP

Raindrop is created using a blue speckled surface glaze with our Blanc finish on the edges and bottom of each piece. We love the contrast created by the combination of the two finishes. Raindrop harkens back to traditional Dutch Delft ceramics - but with a fresh, modern, more minimal interpretation. It's a satin finish.

PALOMINO

Palomino is created using a lightly speckled surface glaze with our Blanc  finish on the edges and bottom of each piece.  We love the contrast created by the combination of the two finishes. This spotted finish can read fun and whimsical or minimal and elegant depending on how you style it - we love versatility. Palomino is a high gloss finish.

How are your finishes made?

Our finishes are created through the combination of one of our claybodies with one or more surface glazes. Several of our finishes are just the natural quality of the claybody by itself! Because of the numerous claybodies and glazes we use, our unique combinations of claybodies and glazes creates dozens of finishes in various textures and colors to suit your distinct style and preferences!

Are these all of your available finishes?

We frequently introduce new finishes and we are always open to trying new experimental combinations, so don't hesitate to inquire with us if there is something you'd like to see! All of our finishes will elevate your dining experience by making foods pop in contrast with their unique colors and textures.

Are all of your finishes safe for me to use everyday?

Our finishes make our wares distinctive without compromising practicality. All of our finishes are food safe and dishwasher safe, regardless of whether they are matte, glossy, or somewhere in between - that way, using our wares for everyday life or special occasions is easy as can be!

... Even your matte finishes?

Even on pieces with a matte finish, don't worry about food or oil absorbing into the surface, it all comes right out in the dishwasher. However, we do advise infrequent use of oil with our super matte finishes. The clay is fully vitrified but pieces with matte or super matte finishes will temporarily absorb water. Don’t stress, it will quickly air dry!
